I had the opportunity to try Age Arrest Anti-Wrinkle Cream and Age Arrest Hydrating Firming Mask. All I had to read was “Based on Nobel Prize*- winning science, revolutionary Telo-5 Technology” and I was dying to try Age Arrest from Kate Somerville.  I should admit that I got so excited about the juicy science-speak that I did not read up on it until after the fact; instead, I took Age Arrest at face value, assuming that it would surpass any other anti-aging product before or since by protecting telomeres.  Why would that be so amazing? When telomeres (tips on the ends of chromosomes, to protect DNA) shorten, cells begin to age. The Age Arrest formula “based on telomere research” is designed to address all signs of aging.

 

How are the products?  Age Arrest Anti-Wrinkle Cream has a luxuriously creamy texture and provides comfort and hydration to dry, sensitive
skin.  It has some great ingredients:  an age-defying peptide with anti-glycation properties, kelp bioferment to help minimize wrinkles, and sea whip extract and
algae plasma for soothing of sensitivity.  Although I read that some of the additional plant extracts in the cream are potentially irritating, the cream did not
cause me any trouble, despite my reactive skin. I found the product to absorb easily and provide a nice, light-yet-effective hydration. Age Arrest Hydrating Firming Mask is deeply hydrating without leaving a greasy residue, and I found it easy and pleasant to keep the mask on overnight for intense hydration. In addition to an anti-aging peptide, it contains white water lily and Centella Asiatica for natural firming effect, as well as ceramide 3 to support the skin barrier.  In contrast to all the clay masks out there, this is a mask designed to give a moisture surge. I experienced no irritation or discomfort whatsoever, and it was quite moisturizing. Suggested use is 1-3 times a week, washing it off after 5-10 minutes, with the option of leaving it on overnight for deeper hydration.Together after some consistent use, Kate Somerville Age Arrest Anti-Wrinkle Cream and Hydrating Firming Mask seem to have plumped and firmed my skin in a subtle way, and I am not the only one.  In addition to receiving rave reviews from consumers across several retail websites, the clinical efficacy of Age Arrest is backed up by data. Kate Somerville conducted an independent clinical study on Age Arrest and found that with the use of these products, 90% of women showed significant improvement in elasticity and firmness and 93% showed significantly more even skin tone—within just four weeks.  By 6 weeks, fine lines were significantly improved as well.  My personal results bear this out.

What about the Nobel Prize Winning science it’s based upon?  


In total honesty, I am not exactly sure how Kate Somerville Age Arrest Anti-Wrinkle Cream works on telomeres—or if it does. I cannot say either way because Telo-5 technology itself is not explained in any real detail anywhere (that I could find).  As a curious person and dutiful reporter, I have written to Kate Somerville Customer Service, as well to the Director of R&D himself to ask
for more information about Telo-5 Technology (i.e., anything they felt comfortable giving me), but to date, I have received no reply.  Until I find out more (in which case I will update), I am tempted to think Paula Begoun’s Beautypedia could be right when they conclude, “nothing in this facial moisturizer can affect telomeres in the body or in the living layers of skin.”  If you can look past the ambiguous marketing, both Age Arrest products provide excellent hydration as well as clinically proven anti-aging properties.
